ksubi gone troppo

my memory is currently playing tricks on me...something tells me i have blogged about this collection before, but logic tells me otherwise. in any case, excess raving about ksubi is always welcomed by me.

this collection is currently my no. 1 source of inspiration for the coming summery season  (although with the present sunshine, anyone would be fooled into thinking aforementioned season was already upon us). hawaiian print denim and palm tree patterns have me spinning with excitement, such that I am having trouble finding words other than damn-freakin-awesome to describe them. not even pineapples can trump this excitement- and that's saying A LOT!

unfortunately my infatuation will have to wait for such items to hit the stores. inpatient as i am, it is well worth the wait. also, in a more practical sense, it gives me time to save my pennies before embarking on my spending spree!

yay!

what's cookin' good lookin'?

the last few days I have been enjoying some time in the kitchen, whipping up a few yummy concoctions. i love cooking, and experimenting and receive a ridiculously large amount of pleasure from using ingredients i can find both in the fridge and the pantry. and not in a 'tired old left overs' kind of way, more of a 'ready-steady-cook' mystery bag challenge!

I am an avid follower of a couple of food blogs; these three are my current go-tos for fast, fresh, healthy and super yummy food.

so, in celebration of my cooking enthusiasm, I thought I might share a couple of my latest foodie endeavours.

quinoa porridge with apple & blueberries
serves 1

1/2 cup milk (of your choice)
1/2 cup water
1/4 cup quinoa
1/2 apple, grated
1/2 tsp cinnamon
1/2 tsp vanilla
a handful of blueberries

Rinse quinoa under cold water, and put into a pot with the water.
Bring to the boil, then reduce heat and cover. Cook for 10 minutes, or until the quinoa is soft.
Add milk, apple, cinnamon and vanilla and cook for a further 5 minutes.
Spoon into a serving bowl and top with blueberries or any other fruit you like. A drizzle of honey would also be lovely for those with a sweeter tooth!
Enjoy!

banana & date loaf (from eat)
120g flour
60g oats
60g almonds (or almond meal)
80g pitted dates, chopped
1 tbsp chia Seeds
1 tsp Bi-Carb Soda
2 ripe bananas
20ml of oil (macadamia. flaxseed or olive)
100ml milk (soy, almond, rice, oat or coconut milk)
1. Preheat oven to 180 degrees C
2. Prepare ingredients, if you have premade flours, add them to a mixing bowl, if you do not, place first 4 ingredients into a high powered blender and mill untill smooth.
3. Add all remaining ingredients and mix well.  If the batter is too dry, add a bit more milk or oil. if it’s too wet, add a little more flour.
4. Lightly greese a tin with oil and free pour batter.
5. Bake for approx 1 hour, untill a skewer comes out clean.  Transfer to a wire rack to cool.  Top with chopped Almonds.

Slice and serve, or top with coconut butter & agave.. great for breakfast or afternoon tea!

green smoothie
1 frozen banana
1 cup spinach
1 cup milk (soy/dairy/rice/almond)
a squeeze of honey

Put all ingredients in a blender and blitz until smooth and frothy!

spring into action (i.e 2013)

i must admit i was not all that enthralled by the array of spring 2013 collections. despite my usual enthusiasm for fashion week's offerings, few designers had me feeling anything more than mild excitement.

alexander wang never fails to deliver, and the collection of laser cut, crisp white dresses and heady leatherwear was very much pleasing– albeit it rather expected, and a little lacking in refreshing juices (if you know what i mean).

stella mc cartney steered away from her previous vision of digital prints and floral explosions, presenting something all the more crisp and clean. the boxy silhouettes and lowered waist lines made for a rather masculine theme only to be challenged by the plunging v neck lines and dramatically split hemlines.

acne had me drawn in by the concept of layering loose fitting clothes with tailored, tighter pieces, and balenciaga's focus on box-like silohuette, and tissue-like skirts was also a source of inspiration.

of recent

the last week has been of the chillin' variety. hours have been spent basking in the sunshine, walking my number one chickita (i.e. my gorgeous pup pippi), perusing the pages of Frankie, bouncing on the trampoline, making pretty cupcakes, eating aforementioned cupcakes, revelling in the greatness of american apparels 'constellation' glitter nail polish, stalking ducks and embarking on a summer wardrobe revamp.

going awol

I know I have been awol for a while now. it is amazing how time goes by when you are away from home. you almost expect things to stand still on the outside world, because your life feels like it is on hold. incredibly, however, life goes on, and when you are finally ready to step back into reality, it is like stepping onto a moving escalator. the sudden jolt of movement snaps you back into life, leaving no time or space for second thoughts. onwards you move.

hopefully I will be back blogging soon. it is really not long now til I climb aboard the escalator for good.

so i guess this is a post to say, hang in there, I'm on my way. and when I do return, this is what I will be eating, wearing and dancing in the sunshine in...
